Simply turning up to a networking event isn't enough, you need a plan...
Andy has spent over 20 years networking and nearly 40 years in sales. He's the joint owner/Sales and Marketing Director of Print Co in Nottingham belonging to many local networking groups.
Before networking his sales world involved cold, wet mornings on industrial estates across the East Midlands. Door-to-door selling with some positive results but with constant knockbacks.
And then In the early 2000's Andy discovered networking events and it took a few years to realise something crucial: networking events are not sales meetings. That realisation changed everything!
Andy has networked for over 20 years and in that time he has run two different networking groups. He's seen all sides of networking good and bad, (especially the bad!). And so decided to write the plans to help people get the best outcome from their networking efforts.
Networking isn't cheap so a positive return on your time and money is essential.

"Most people go networking with good intentions and leave with very little to show for it. Not because it doesn't work, but because no one's ever shown them how to do it properly."— Andy Middleton
Practical Networking Tips
Tip 1: The Superhero Stance
Nervous about standing up to do a 60 seconds presentation? Think about rising out of your seat as your favourite superhero persona (think Superman or Wonder Woman) - Stand tall, straight back, chin held high. Not for the entire speech obviously, just a split second to steady the nerves.
Tip 2: Don't be a Network-a-holic
Don't keep going to networking events and coming away without some positive actions. Any plan is better than none. Remember networking is still part of your sales function so treat it as such, enjoy it but come out with the right results. And I don't necessarily mean orders.
Tip 3: Think K.I.N.G
Knowledge - Find out in advance what kind of event you're going to and plan ahead accordingly.
Interested - Be interested, not interesting. Ask questions, be inquisitive. Be the best listener.
Nurture - Follow up with your new contacts and grow the relationship.
Growth - Be consistent and grow your network.
